Hello all!
Today I am taking on the controversial topic of higher powers. In particular Christianity because it is so prominent in my community. I guess I'll start off saying that I'm an atheist and also there is pretty much nothing you can possibly do to convinces otherwise. Although I respect that you have your beliefs and opinions I am as firm in my belief as you are. Anyways I'd like to inform all of those people out there who do have a higher power why I think this way.
I have the opinions and beliefs that I do mostly I suppose be cause I never really had any sort of spiritual education. Looking back I think that it is both good and bad that I didn't because I know very little about the bible, the Torah, and the qar'an (very sorry I don't know how to spell that) but on the other side I never had anyone telling me what to believe from a very young age. It is not just lack of education that brought me to the conclusion I have. I have seen absolutely no evidence that there is any sort of higher power. The bible is not evidence that there is a god. Who is to say that a god wrote that? In my opinion it was wrote by someone for the specific purpose of controlling large amounts of people. I have not heard any evidence that proves a higher power exists. My last reason for being an atheist is that the notion of an all powerful all seeing being is too far fetched. Even if there were such a being why would it bother with earth? I don't think that we're that interesting. Honestly an all powerful being that made everything in existence? Well where did that all powerful being come from in the first place? Christianity doesn't even explain that. I think that Greek mythology is much better in that respect, the gods don't get bored and they came from a specific place. In any case that's why I'm an atheist.
I gotta say I don't hate religion I think that in may aspects it is a very good thing. My reasons for not believing in a higher power are my own and you shouldn't assume that every atheist thinks this way. Just as there are different religions there are different kinds of atheists.
